Ramadan Kareem.

The Year 6 team would like to wish you all Ramadan Kareem during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Throughout Ramadan, we ask the children continue to read for at least 20-30 minutes a day as this will have a huge impact on their reading fluency, comprehension skills and reading stamina in preparation for the upcoming assessments.

Below, you will find different optional activities that you can complete during the afternoons they are not in school.

Each of these activities should take between 20 and 30 minutes and are entirely optional.

Kindness Diary - Reflection

F1 Digital Portfolio – Using last week’s assembly about aerodynamics, continue/complete your digital portfolio slides about friction, aerodynamics and motion.

F1 – Portfolio Formatting – Spend the afternoon formatting your verbal and digital portfolios. Ensure all text is easy to read, diagrams and images are positioned correctly. Think carefully about your colour palette as well as borders, animations and clip arts.

Kindness Diary – Over the next three weeks, you can note down acts of kindness you perform or witness. This could be helping a family member, sharing something, or even a kind thought about someone. At the end of the three weeks, you can reflect on how these acts made you and others feel, promoting the values of kindness and community central to Ramadan.

This can be written in your own notebook or paper you can take from class. You can fold A4 paper to make a booklet and write the date at the top of each page.

Reflect – Do acts of kindness help the giver or the recipient more? Write a one paragraph justification using examples from your life. Think of times when you showed an act of kindness – how did it make you feel? Think of times when an act of kindness was shown towards you – how did this feel? Does it depend on the situation?

Make a Ramadan Calendar - Design a simple Ramadan calendar with activities to do each day, like helping others, learning a new fact about Ramadan, or doing good deeds. Each activity should take only a few minutes.

Ramadan Charity Jar – A Ramadan Sadaqah Jar is a special container used during the holy month of Ramadan to collect small daily donations for charity (Sadaqah). Its purpose is to encourage regular giving, cultivate generosity, and remind individuals or families of the importance of helping those in need.

Use this help sheet to make your own Sadaqah (charity) jar – Sadaqah Jar

Ramadan informational poster – Research and create a poster that includes key information about Ramadan, such as the purpose of fasting, the importance of charity, and how it is observed around the world.

Use paper from home (coloured or white) or ask your teacher for some A3 paper. You can use paint, pencils, pens or even collage to create your poster.

Iftar Meal – Think carefully about your family’s favourite foods. How could you show your love and appreciation for them through a thoughtful iftar meal. Find the recipes for what you want to make (check with whoever will help you get the ingredients and make the meal). Adjust the recipe using ratio and proportion to meet the needs of your family. Add your recipe (basic and adjusted) and photographs of your meal to Seesaw.

Book Review – Your book review should include the title and author of the book, a brief synopsis (without giving away the end!), what you enjoyed about the book, and who you think would also enjoy the book.

A Model of the Heart and Lungs – this may take you a little longer than 30 minutes and can be done over the weekend. Use any ‘junk’ materials you have around the home. Can you use colour and arrows to show how oxygenated blood travels from the lungs to the heart and then to the arteries? Can you show how deoxygenated blood travels from the body, through the veins, to the heart and then to the lungs? Design a Ramadan Quiz - Research and prepare a 10-question quiz about Ramadan for your classmates. Each question should focus on a different aspect of Ramadan, like history, customs, and practices. Perhaps you may like to turn this into a Blooket to play with your class.

Century Tech – My Pathway – Set a timer for 30 minutes, complete as many Century Tech nuggets in your pathway as you can. Make sure you are getting 80% correct. If not, re-do the activity before moving on. Remember to ask an adult for help if you don’t understand something.

Ramadan Storytelling - Write a short story or poem about the spirit of Ramadan, focusing on themes like kindness, fasting, or family. You can illustrate the story as well.

Kindness Diary Reflection – Take some time to read through your kindness diary. Which acts of kindness brought you the most joy? Were there any acts of kindness directed towards you that made you happy? Write a paragraph summarising how doing daily acts of kindness made you feel. Will this be something you look to continue on a regular basis?
